WINNING SETTLEMENT STRATEGIES & TACTICS, Part Two
Delta Prince Edward, Charlottetown - Friday Afternoon, June 15th and all-day Saturday, June 16th, 2018
** This conference represents Ten (10) Hours of MCPD Credits under the four Atlantic Provinces MCPD programs. **
We tell our clients that most cases settle before trial - and that is true. But just because a case settles doesn't mean there aren't winners and losers. There are bad settlements, there are good settlements and there are great settlements. Great settlements are our goal, and they don't just happen - they are the result of a well-executed strategy, which begins at intake and continues to the filing of the consent dismissal order. Everything is part of your plan. Nothing is left to chance. To make sure your client has the best shot at a great settlement, APTLA held its Settlements Part One program in Halifax in November, and is now presenting Part Two. Join us in Charlottetown for this essential legal education!
Winning Settlement Strategies & Tactics, Part Two will include:
• Driving Better Settlements from the Start: Drilling Down into Colossus
• Writing to Win: Settlement Advocacy through Legal Writing, Part 1
• Writing to Win: Settlement Advocacy through Legal Writing, Part 2
• Nothing Left to the Imagination: Using Demonstrative Evidence to Settle Cases
• Timing is Everything - Settling after Discoveries - Lessons from Ontario
• Dynamics of Settlement Conferences, Mediations & Judicial Settlement Conferences - Views from the Bench and Bar
• The Science of Settlement - Pre-suasion (Preparation), Persuasion (Bargaining) & Further Ado (Agreements)
• What is the Case Worth?
We have an excellent faculty lined up for our Settlements conference. We are delighted to welcome Professor Jarrod Reich, Associate Professor of Legal Writing and Research, Georgetown University Law Center; APTLA Member and former OTLA President, Judith Hull of McKenzie Lake; the honourable Chief Justice Tracey Clements, PEI Trial Division; and Barry Goldman, Arbitrator, Mediator, and the author of The Science of Settlement: Ideas for Negotiators. We are thrilled to welcome the return on J.D. Hays, Jr. of Taylor King (AR).
APTLA is lucky to include in our faculty Daniel Wood of APTLA's Young Lawyer Section; APTLA Member, Pamela Large-Moran; APTLA's Past President, Cynthia Taylor; and Lynn Murray, of Key Murray Law, and Greg Cann, Q.C., Cox & Palmer.
Together, they will bring you an excellent content to immediately improve your approach to case settlements.
